Hapag’s Target More Ambitious Than Maersk’s as Transformative Deals Progress

Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk have made significant progress in their respective, transformative deals. Hapag-Lloyd has completed the integration of UASC and committed to synergies of $435 million from 2019. Maersk is further behind having just closed its acquisition of Hamburg Sud, and has committed to up to $400 million of synergies. ​​​​​​​Hapag-Lloyd’s target is more ambitious in that it is equivalent to 44% of its EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) from the past 12 months.
