New York and New Jersey Live La Dolce Vita in August Port Rankings

U.S. imports in August hit a new high, with containerized freight rising 5% on a year earlier to break 2.3 million TEUs for the first time. The Ports of Newark and New York did best, with 12.2% growth and overtaking Long Beach as the second busiest port complex. This resulted from their exposure to the expanding European market, and in particular Italy and France. Los Angeles remained largest, and grew 2.3% on the back of China, even though it lost volumes from South Korea to Long Beach.
