Aluminum manufacturer Albecour’s General Manager, Pierre Boisvert, has noted that the Canadian aluminum exporters have “netted less” because of U.S. section 232 duties. Instead they have switched sales to the EU as a result of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement as “metal free of duties in Europe were key for this shift.” Canadian exports of aluminum to the EU have surged 533.4% higher in the three months to Nov. 30 versus a year earlier, with U.S. exports having fallen 18.7% and those from Russia dropping 18.5%.
